Normally, when we talk about paranormal activity, we talk about the kind that involves ghosts (or what people perceive as ghosts) – but what about the rest; astral projection? Cryptids? Intuition & precognition? Where do those fit into the conversation between science and lore?
I’ve certainly had many seemingly ghostly experiences, but truthfully most of my compelling and puzzling experiences of the “paranormal” have centered around intuition and precognition. Paranormal or not, my successful predictions over the years have taught me to trust my gut and, on this particular day, I am so glad that I followed my intuition even when it didn’t make sense at the time;
The Hodor Incident
So, a bit of backstory: I’ve always spontaneously predicted things before they happen, sometimes in dreams, sometimes in a precognitive feeling.
Probably one of the most striking examples of this was years ago when I was planning a trip to Ireland for a family member’s birthday. Months before leaving, I declared to my family, “I have no idea why, but we are going to meet the guy who plays Hodor from Game of Thrones on this trip.” It made zero sense; there was no real reason for it, but somehow I just KNEW. Everyone thought I was crazy (and for good reason), but every few weeks I’d mentioned it again. I was just SO sure.
Finally, the day of the trip arrived. We made our way to the Toronto airport and went to our gate.
There he was.
We had just started the trip and already, my prediction was manifesting. Of course, at another time in history, I would be burned as a witch so fast your head would spin, but thanks to good positioning in the timeline, I was safe. I could use that experience to remind me that the voice inside of me can be trusted. Coincidence? Fat chance, but alas, I remain skeptical.
The Cat Came Back: An Anecdote of Friendship
So, fast forward to this past weekend. I met someone and my intuition clearly declared, “You’re supposed to know this person”. This is certainly not the first time this has happened, and it always leads to profound things, so I trust it.
We ended up becoming friends on social media, and, me, being my weird, open, and honest self, proclaimed to him immediately that this was a fated friendship. Sadly, just hours after meeting, my new friend was talking about his grief around losing his cat recently. Kitty went outside and the only trace left was their collar and some fur. It certainly seemed that the poor kitty had met a predator in the wild. He was distraught and I desperately wished there was something I could do to fix it.
The next day, I had to make my regular Monday morning trip to Embrun to pick up my kids. My new friend was texting me and it came up randomly that he’d recently moved to Embrun. No way! I was literally driving there. We decided that we’d meet in person to finish our chat. And that’s where things started to get interesting.
The moment we arrived with coffee, my friend mentioned their dead cat. Still lots of grieving happening. Makes sense. And then one of my kids said, “Wait…what did your cat look like?” After a bit of back and forth, we realized that a very similar cat had been hanging out on the girls’ dad’s porch, literally a minute away from where we were standing. They’d seen it there less than an hour ago! Now, the chances of that cat still being on the porch (or even being the same cat) were slim, but it seemed worth checking out so we hopped in the van.
It was his freaking cat.
An astounding synchronicity. The reunion was beautiful, and we were so happy to have had such a positive impact, but a million tiny things had to line up for that to happen. The biggest factor was that all of us had to be crazy enough to trust my intuition and to not be afraid of making new, very random, connections.
Coincidence or Psychic?
Can I see the future? I mean, technically I have. Are these experiences in my life truly paranormal or are they just coincidence? Let’s just say I’m still a healthy skeptic largely driven by logic and reason – but I am happy that I trust my gut, even when it makes no logical sense. I always will.
